Vascular Ultrasound
Vascular ultrasound is used to assess arterial and venous systems, providing evaluation of vessel structure and haemodynamics. It utilises real-time imaging combined with Doppler techniques to assess blood flow direction, velocity, and waveform characteristics, without the use of ionising radiation.
Examinations are performed using a transducer placed over the relevant vascular territory, with targeted assessment based on clinical indication.
A sonographer performs the examination, with images reviewed and reported by a radiologist.
Vascular ultrasound may include:
- Carotid duplex ultrasound — assessment of carotid artery stenosis, plaque morphology, and cerebrovascular risk
- Upper and lower limb arterial ultrasound — evaluation of arterial patency, stenosis, or occlusion in peripheral arterial disease
- Upper and lower limb venous ultrasound — assessment for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and thrombophlebitis
- Abdominal aorta ultrasound — screening and surveillance of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
- Renal and visceral artery ultrasound — assessment for renal artery stenosis and evaluation of blood flow to abdominal organs

Their patterns traced where hidden shifts have been.
