Paediatric Ultrasound

Safe and gentle imaging tailored for infants and children of all ages.

Paediatric ultrasound is a safe and gentle imaging test used to assess infants and children. It provides detailed, real-time images using sound waves and does not involve radiation, making it particularly suitable for young patients.

The examination is tailored to the child’s age and clinical needs, with a focus on comfort and a calm environment. A parent or caregiver is always welcome to stay with the child throughout the scan.

A sonographer performs the scan, with images reviewed by a radiologist to ensure accurate interpretation.

Paediatric ultrasound may include:

  • Abdominal ultrasound — for abdominal pain, vomiting, or suspected conditions such as pyloric stenosis, intussusception, appendicitis, or mesenteric adenitis
  • Hip ultrasound — for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in infants, and conditions such as transient synovitis in older children
  • Renal tract ultrasound — for urinary tract infections, antenatal findings, or suspected structural abnormalities
  • Neck and soft tissue ultrasound — for lumps, swellings, or lymph node assessment
  • Scrotal ultrasound — for pain, swelling, suspected torsion, or undescended testes
  • Head ultrasound (infants) — for assessment of brain structures, particularly in premature or unwell babies

When little ones feel off or sore,
We take a look to learn a bit more,
With sound waves safe and pictures clear,
To see what’s happening in there.

For tummies, hips, or lumps we find,
Or pains that trouble body or mind,
From twists to bumps or things that roam,
We help to guide the answers home.

For boys, for kidneys, head or hip,
We check each part with gentle grip,
And with you there the whole way through,
We keep things calm for them—and you.
