Diagnostic Curiosity

We do not believe medical imaging is a commodity. While many providers offer the same examinations, the quality of those examinations can vary significantly. The expertise of the staff, the quality of the equipment, the involvement of the radiologist, and the time devoted to each patient all influence the accuracy of the diagnosis and, ultimately, patient outcomes.

Radiologists are medical specialists, not simply image interpreters. Our role extends beyond identifying abnormalities on a scan. We have a deep understanding of disease processes, treatment options, prognosis, and the broader clinical context in which imaging findings exist. The value of a radiologist lies not only in recognising what is visible on an image, but in understanding what it means for the patient.

For this reason, we do not see our role as merely performing the examination requested on a referral form. Referrals provide an important starting point, but our responsibility is to investigate the patient's problem and pursue the correct diagnosis. Sometimes this means performing additional imaging, altering the examination strategy, or looking beyond the specific question that was originally asked.
