Medicare in Australia is a complex system. It pays an amount for most medical imaging services but is generally insufficient to cover the specialised and detailed scans we perform, and the time and care we insist that each patient deserves. For this reason most scans at RMI are a combination of a Medicare rebate and a gap (out of pocket) fee.

At RMI we believe that the cost of our scans when performed by our loving, expert staff paves a pathway to better health and is ultimately a cost saving for patients. A precise diagnosis and a report designed to be understood by your referrer allows prompt commencement of appropriate treatment.

Patients have the option of paying the gap fee together with the Medicare amount or just the gap fee (in this instance the gap amount will not contribute to a patient’s annual Medicare threshold).

Below is a list of gap (out of pocket) fees for typical scans which are updated as they change. There are many additional scans or combinations of scans which are not listed and can be quoted by contacting reception.

We currently do not charge a gap fee (this is called Bulk Billing) for children and most pension/healthcare card holders.
