Examination Preparation
Pelvic, Renal & Pregnancy Scans (First Trimester)
For: Pelvic scan (including under 18’s), Renal scan, Less than 12 weeks obstetric scan/Dating scan and 12-14 weeks
Obstetric scan:
Please drink 2 glasses of water 1 hour prior to your appointment and hold your bladder.
For: 20-22 weeks Obstetric scan and Third trimester scan please be well hydrated and hold bladder 30 minutes prior to your appointment.Abdominal Ultrasound
Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours before your ultrasound.
You may take regular medications with a small sip of water.
Mammogram Preparation
- Avoid certain products: Do not wear deodorant, perfume, lotion or talcum powder on the day of your mammogram (these can appear as shadows on the X-ray).
- Clothing: Choose a two-piece outfit so you only need to undress from the waist up.
- Jewellery: Please remove necklaces and large earrings before the procedure.
Other Examinations
For most other examinations (Thyroid, Breast Ultrasound, Musculoskeletal), there is generally no specific preparation required. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
